Annually the LEAD Program recruits on competitive basis new Associates from different professional background, aged from 25 to 45, with visible leadership skills potential. The host institution for LEAD Program acting in the countries of CIS Region (LEAD CIS Program) is non-governmental, non-profit foundation – “Development and Environment Foundation”, one of the distinguished nongovernmental organizations in the area of environment and sustainable development. LEAD CIS calls for applications for the participation in the Program in the year 2009 The format of the Program annual cycle includes two regional sessions (total presence is up to 20 days) and international graduation session (presence is one week). The sessions for the upcoming Cohort 14 of LEAD Associates will take place in Moscow Region (April 2009), Kazakhstan (September 2009) and China (November 2009). Particularly, Field session “Sustainable development and climate at regional and local levels” (Kazakhstan, September 2009) will allow the Associates to make familiar with sustainable development approaches and practices at sub-national levels, the role of local government, business sector and non-governmental organizations will be discussed in the context of development patterns, social and environmental policy. Distant learning session will be devoted to the preparations to the international session in China , entitled as climate change and low-carbon economy. International Graduation Session will take place in China , November 2009, at the session all national and regional Associates will gather to discuss the climate change and low-carbon issues. The participation in the Program is the subject of participation fees (at your own expenses, at the expenses of your organization or by sponsors). Particularly, the Associates have to pay all transportation, accommodation and meals during the regional sessions. LEAD International offers 10 stipends to cover all local expenses for the international graduation session, excluding travel expenses to the China . The Development and Environment Foundation offers one or two fellowship stipends named by Professor Nikita Glazovsky (LEAD CIS Director during 1995-2005). Total participation costs for participation in all 2009 activities are estimated at the level of USD 4500-5000. The participation in the international session is optional .
